About San Francisco Concerts

The San Francisco area encompasses Western California’s three major cities: San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose. With that many big cities relatively close to each other, you’ll have plenty of options if you’re looking for some live music.

The original Fillmore is a San Francisco staple. The “San Francisco Sound” blossomed at the Fillmore throughout the 1960s, as artists like the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, and Jefferson Airplane played famous shows at the venue. Over time, the Fillmore became known for psychedelic shows (including a multimedia show from Andy Warhol) and played a major role in the growth of San Francisco’s counterculture. The modern-day Fillmore holds concerts on most days of the week and fits just under 2000 people.

Chase Center, home to the NBA’s powerhouse Golden State Warriors, is a newly built arena for sporting events and concerts. About an hour south in San Jose is the SAP Center, home to the NHL’s San Jose Sharks. SAP Center was built in 1993 and hosts concerts throughout the year when the Sharks and their minor league affiliate, the Barracuda, aren’t in town.
